What's the best restaurant experience you have had?

For me it used to be going to my brother's restaurant Charlies 517 in Houston and being treated like royalty.

Second place goes to a shack on the beach in Negril Jamaia. I'm not sure it even had a name though Ive never tasted fish more delicious. Perhaps it had nothing to do with the fish but the view

L'Ecole Restaurant at The French Culinary Institute in downtown NYC. The students prepare meals and the flavor and taste was perfect. They are open for lunch and dinner. Wish I lived in NYC!

The finest dining experience was when our Mother took us to Chez Francois in Washington, DC. It is still open in Great Falls, VA and I know Chef Jacques who is the original Chef's son. His and the restaurant are renowned and I keep wanting to go there. Maybe for my husband's birthday in early November.

All we have here is chain resturants and hole in the wall gas station diners. The best food I have had was in New Orleans at Coop's on Decatur Street. I do not know if it is even there now as this was before Katrina. I am waiting to go back.

#1 Would be Sardi's in NYC a few years back. Food was incredible and the service was borderline ridiculous it was so good. Every time I took a sip of wine, the little man was right there to pour another sip in! Went again a year ago and was not as good.

#2 Would be Frontera Grill in Chicago last week. Met Rick Bayless, food was awesome....no need to say more!

#3 Is a little hole-in-the-wall place in Atlantic Beach NC called The Crab's Claw. The chef there makes the most amazing crab and shrimp dip I have ever eaten and she won't give out the recipe! We go there just to eat the dip and drink beer.

  Rick Bayless - how awesome! I'm dying to get to any one of Jean Georges' places in NYC. I've had an offer, but can't find the time to get there.

There are two that stand out to me for different reasons. The first was a small Mexican spot at Epcot Center that had the BEST salad. It was billed as a Mexican Chicken Salad and it was the first time I ever had Jicama - I was 16 then. It was simply one of the best salads I have ever eaten and I wish I could go back!

The other was service at a local and very popular restaurant. My husband and I had gone for our second anniversary (so this was 18 years ago!) and the waiter was the picture of perfection in service. He took our order without a pad and pen (and remembered who ordered what), waited on us at exactly the right moment each time he checked on us and remembered freshly cracked pepper for my salad - which he doled out with great flair from a very large peppermill. It was an awesome dining experience. There was more to it than that, but those were the moments that really had me won over.

  It is special when they put pepper on your food. I don't know why find this so cool.

Best place we've been is a restaurant called Fatz. They go out of their way to make you happy. They will even make your order happen if there's something you want that isn't on the menu. Great prices too.

  It's always so cool when you get a food server who will make the dining experience a tailored one. You ask and they make it happen. Fatz sounds like a great place.
