Do you plan a weekly or monthly menu for your meals? I tend to think in an abstracted manner when I shop, a vague way unless I am expecting guests. Usually I cook for one or two.
My Father did a lot of the cooking in our home and he would indicate we would have this or that Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. He had seven people (including himself) to feed, so I suppose there needed to be a plan.
Tell me how you do it at your house. Do you feed more than one or two, and if so, how many? How do you plan ahead and to what extent?

I do create monthly meal plans even though I do not follow rigorously. It does help me though to get an idea of what I need at home. We are 4 at home and with the tween daughter having friends over almost every weekend. Also for dinner I always make enough for hubby and girls to have lunch next day. Whenever I make stews I tend to do quite a bit more so to freeze for days I have no time to cook. -
I rarely plan things out unless there is some recipe I want to try. With just the two of us I normally go to the pantry and fridge, take a look and decide what we're going to have for supper. -
Right now I'm feeding only myself, so I will cook enough for at least two meals and eat the leftovers till they run out. Hey, they may be leftovers, but they're my leftovers and they're still good. I only plan meals when I'm having company. As Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman, "I'm a seat-of-the-pants girl."
