We live in the middle of no where. There are no ethnical resturants but two semi good chinese buffets. I want to introduce my kids to ethnic fods. Do yall have some ideas of kid friendly ethnic foods. I also do not have access to alot of diffrent food items the two biggest grocery stores are krogers and walmart. TIA

Hi, Amy - most of what is considered ethnic still uses many of the same ingredients - just prepared differently. I would start with the most 'popular' introducing Mexican and Italian. Sometimes we will have 'ethnic week' at home and I will let the kids choose a different ethnicity for each day and then make dishes based on that.

Just think - tacos and spaghetti are ethnic and you probably just don't think of them that way!

    Amybyrd,

I introduced my children to Indian food by using a Madhur Jaffrey book and cooking some simple dishes with them. We even baked our own Naan on pizza stones in our oven.

I say, visit your local library and choose a place to 'get to know'. Then bring your children in on the choices -- and the cooking. They'll love to taste what they've made 'all by themselves!'

Another way is to visit our members blogs and let your children see the different countries they visit on the web and then see if you can make them or, shop for a few ingredients on-line to be delivered to your home. It's special that you are doing this food education.

My furry child, Bobby, lies on my desk and watches where I go. He is a world traveler.
