After a long, hot and dry summer, it is suddenly cold and wet in TX! This has made me crave New England Clam Chowder and warm fluffy bread!

What is your favorite cold weather meal?

WOw. We like to dine at authentic Japanese Houses here in the WDC area. I like to sip a little sake and I really like the custom of removing ones shoes before entering the dining room.

Traditionally, my family's favorite was Oyster Stew. I never much cared for it, though. I'm one of those weird hot natured people so I love the cold! But, when it gets really nippy out, I love a big cup of hot cocoa and warm cookies.

What is it about macaroni and cheese that I never seem to tire of it? I do know that when I broil chicken and add BBQ sauce, the mac and cheese tastes really good if some of the chicken bbq sauce combines with the mac and cheese. Awesome. Add some buttered spinach and my mouth is happy.

I love using my slow cooker in the winter. It seems everything cooked from it warms me up. Here is a great recipe I copied from my Busy People's Slow Cooker cookbook.

    Southwestern Vegetarian Soup
This soup is especially good on a cold winter day.

6 cups chicken broth (6 bouillon cubes with 6 cups water)
    2 cups salsa
    1 (1 1/4-ounce) package taco seasoning
1 (1-pound) package frozen vegetables (I use Freshlike.)
    1 (16-ounce) can fat-free refried beans

    · Spray a slow cooker with nonfat cooking spray.
    · In the slow cooker mix together the broth, salsa, taco seasoning, vegetables, and refried beans.
    · Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours.
    · If desired sprinkle crushed baked tortilla chips on individual servings of soup before eating. For a spicier soup add a few drops of hot sauce.
