I remember never touching a mushroom (they reminded me of slugs) until I turned twenty-one. My roommate Donna, was cleaning fresh mushrooms for dinner, and since she knew I had worked in a French restaurant, she asked me to slice them for her. By the time she was browning them in the skillet, the butter golden and sizzling, I decided to taste one. I was prepared to spit it into the trash. My mouth did not reject the vegetable and before I realized it, I was eating another and another. I was hooked! -
I do not eat sweet potato but I did try it when I was 29, just to be openminded. My mind shut down and I closed my mouth. There might be something in the sweet potato that I am allergic to. -
Haha... Not exactly sure why but I did not care for peas when I was younger. So my Mother one spring asked if I wanted to plant some vegetables in the garden, take care of them and watch them grow. Of course I jumped into that opportunity as I loved getting my hands dirty. Now there was one thing she made me promise. I HAD to eat everything I would grow. As I always loved all types of vegetables (apart from peas) I agreed to it right away. Well she was smart enough to get some plants growing of what I later discover were peas inside the pods! Since I have eaten peas without a problem, -
I wouldn't touch shrimp. My parents forced them on me. Then one day....click. They regretted making me eat them after that.
I've got more food regrets--opportunities lost. 100-year old egg in Taiwan (or partaking of the bile/blood/vodka in snake alley). Not exactly the type of thing you can get in Texas.-
Exotic and very frightening cuisine choices. I wouldn't taste them either and no regrets on my part. I am not an adventurous culinary explorer. Regular food has it's own challenges.
By the way, thanks for the spinach pasta recipe. I told my husband (he was looking over my shoulder at the computer screen) I needed to get the pasta attachment of my Kitchen Aid Mixer. Now he might go along with the purchase. I knew I had him when he asked "What's semolina?" Ha!
