Share Our Strength has partnered with bloggers, charities, and corporations to end childhood hunger in America.
Nearly 1 in 4 children in America struggle with hunger. That's about 17 million kids who don't get nutritious meals while the media and politicians focus our attention on obesity!
14.1 million children in America live in poverty. That’s 5.5% more than a year ago. (For a four-person family, that means getting by on less than $420 a week.)
Nearly half of all children will receive SNAP (food stamp) benefits at some point in their lifetime.
Children who are hungry do not perform well in school and are more apt to suffer from headaches, stomachaches, and lack of energy. They also are more likely to suffer health problems and have trouble recovering from normal childhood illnesses.
How can you help?
Host a bake sale! Your bake sale will create awareness and help educate the community about an issue that is often ignored: childhood hunger in America.
Funds raised support No Kid Hungry, Share Our Strength’s campaign to end childhood hunger in America by 2015.
You can host a bake sale based on your schedule and in your community. It’s an easy and fun way to help kids. Roll up your sleeves, pre-heat your ovens, and bake a difference!
The money raised through the bake sales ($1 million last year) are put to use to:
Enroll more eligible kids in school breakfast, after-school snacks and meals, and their families in SNAP (food stamps).
Bring community gardens and farmers markets to low-income neighborhoods.
Bring affordable, fresh fruits and vegetables to urban corner stores.
Teach at-risk families how to plan, shop for, and prepare healthy, low-cost meals at home.
Help local food pantries, food banks and soup kitchens meet the pressing demand for more nutritious food.
Increase awareness and understanding of childhood hunger and solutions to it.

THAT IS Great... I too am helping out a big one that has been organized for end of May here in Milwaukee! -
Maybe we could list sales that HHM members are organizing or working on along with locations and dates in case members or visitors are nearby and want to participate or stop by and purchase something?
We're looking at Memorial Day weekend here in Tucson but haven't picked a spot yet.-
Let's discuss this more and figure out the best way to do this. Perhaps through BloggersUnite.org We could maybe get a badge made for the people who want to blog about it, place on their sidebar. If you go to my skdd site, Buck, I have one that says Compassion for may 15th. Click it and see what I mean. -
