Thank you for the invitation Catherine, I will be there with bells and bows. Thank you for being a guest host bringing us your harvest celebration. -
I sadly have to miss this one. I will be in emphis with the family this weekend. We are going to the zoo, The peabody, and the Nelly's resturant. That is the plan any way. But if it is raining I will be here. -

Um. I bet that gave it a nice spark of interest for the taste buds. One time, I baked a cheesecake and before adding the mixture to the graham cracker crust, I drizzled fresh lime juice over it. I had people guessing for days, what the extra ingredient was. As it turned out, it was a perfect compliment to the crust and filling.

I really enjoy this sauce...it is my son's favorite. It will go well with the chicken strips!

If your stomach is rolling try some grated ginger in seltzer and a little honey to sweeten it. It really helps an upset stomach. -

Yes and here are a few ... the others are kitties.

They have feet and hands. George suffered a nose injury and I had to operate with a red marker! After I caught them all I had to get them to stand in the basket quietly while I captured their best features. They are a motley crew.-
Oh, he is character all right. If I could get them to sit still for some more shots I could make Thanksgiving Cards. I wouldn't put it past the little buggers to keep their hands off my house keys. Sometimes I believe the little people hide things from us. They likely throw mad parties when we go out to the store. -
He already did this one.

Next I'll teach them The Star Spangled Banner and Rule Britannia.

Catherine, the cranberry sauce with ginger, would be a wonderful recipe for Thanksgiving. How long will it keep in the fridge beforehand, for the freshest results? I have cranberries and was thinking about a chutney but I think I like your sauce much better. -
Made it back and bought two pumpkins and some wonderful and big apples today at a farmers market. I also bought some year end tomatoes that look decent for this time of year. Going to make an apple dessert tommorrow. -

what do you work as Lady Gourmet if I may ask, I love your name sounds so grand, like you should be living in a gated manor house!-
Well Rebecca the story is quite simple, my name is Catherine, but I needed a user name for one of the blog communities, so I thought of the name LadyGourmet, since my blog site is Livingthegourmet. I don't live in a gated manor house, but it is a nice house, we call it a Cape Cod style house here in the States.

I was thinking about making this dish in the crock pot. It calls for the oven but I think if I brown the roast it will do ok in the cock pot. It is out of Womens Day
Tex Mex pork and Hominy
2 1/2 lb pork shoulder roast
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 TBS oil
1 large onion chopped
2 medium poblano peppers cut into 3/4 in pieces
1 tbs minced garlic
12 oz beer
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes and green chilies
3 TBS tomatoe paste
2 tsp each chili powder and ground cumin
1 can (29 oz) hominy, drained
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
serve with: sliced radishes, lime wedges, and tortillas.
Brown the roast. Place in casserole dish. Brown the onions, peppers, and garlic in drippings. stir in beer, tomatoes, tomato paste, spices, and salt. Add hominy and pour over pork. Cover and bake for 2 hours or util pork is tender. Remove pork and shred. Add back to tomatoe sauce. Add cilantro. serve with tortillas, radishes and lime wedges. -

Amybird,
I want a taste. The beer sounds interesting. What does it contribute to the dish, in your opinion?
Back in the day, I remember my Grandmother, Mama tightening the round black knob to close the metal ring. It held the top and bottom on the pressure cooker together. I never really understood how they work. My Dad used it also and he warned me out of the kitchen ... because of potential pressured food flying across the room?
That never happened though.

Maryland is only 250 miles south of NYC and perhaps 375 miles from WS,NC. The weather is rainy and the leaves are 1/3 blown off some of the trees. the fall colors are vibrant and amazing. I love this time of the year and the next few months the most.

More trees are colored, since last weekend, and even though it heralds in the coming winter season, It is the last hurrah. Cozy is one of the best feelings ... EVER.

I got sea sick going on the car ferry across Mobile Bay. I am in a car to go any where. I love driving but I hate going with my hubby. He wont stop any where intresting or eat any where but some where he knows. He is a get there and get back man. Drives me nuts. I get in the car pick a direction head out and stop alot. I go places and eat at little hole in the walls. i am adventurious. My kids like that.-
You have lots of fun personality. When I was a kid I was an adventuress. I went practically everywhere. I am fortunate to have had a safe childhood.
Once on vacation in Bermuda, they took us deep sea fishing. Not my thing. I caught a few fish, they were chopped , feeling woozy thinking about it, and turned into bait to catch even bigger fish. Beforehand, My Mother insisted I take a Dramamine and half-way through the trip, we went down under and played cards. My card partner told me I turned a shade of green. I did not get sick but I felt horrible. When we got back to shore, after tossing and tossing in the ocean, I couldn't get my land-legs for a long time. the earth seemed to swell-up to meet me.
I never felt this way on the cruise ship. They have huge balance thingys that help keep the ship pretty level.

Faulty Towers is on Maryland Public TV and every time their telephone rings, I look at my cell phone. I have it set to ring with the same old phone sound. It has fooled me three times thus far. Who likes the British comedies? -
He would rather stay at home any way he was a truck driver for years (now a welder) so he his a home body. He wont leave his pigs or chickens for that long. lol. They are the money makers around here so I understand. we went to Disney for a week and had to have his daughter stay here to feed and all. But atleast I get fresh eggs (Chicken and Duck). I leave him here and just go. He is cool with it. But I have only been to Chicago, St Louis, Washington Dc, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Lousiana, Alabama. South and North Carolina. And that is pretty much it and that has been several years ago. -

My sister moved to Portland, OR and the rainy season is about to begin, for six months. Alaska is beautiful, I have never been there, either. It looks like the last great frontier. I adored NYC, and when I lived as a tiny girl in Miami, it was pristine beaches and very little traffic. Only one long strip of high rises and hotels. Tennessee until I was four, was best in Autumn. The southern summer humidity is horrendous. California, I visited twice 1 hour from San Jose, had a 2:30PM afternoon breeze that you could bank on. Maryland, Virginia and the Washington Metro area is pretty, humid and too political for me.
Drove across to Iowa once and hated it. I liked Canada very much. I think I enjoy cooler climates.

oh cool you have seen a lot Teresa I have seen most of the US love California NYC, DC Miami but to live NC those are cool places to visit LOL -
alright time for bed for me Goodnight ladies nice chatting with you, this is a nice thread, love the diversity of the US lol Rebecca -
Catherine, Last week on 60 minutes, there was a segment on these fellows who wear flying suits and literally jump off the sides of mountains and glide downward, catching the airlift and waiting until the last moment to pull the parachute chord. I think I would like to try it.-
Only if I new I would be alright. It is a close as humans have ever come to flying and as long as you are with those who know what they re going ... why not? You start smaller and then go higher from there.
They are wearing specially made gliding suits, much like a flying squirrel. They also have parachutes.
Here you go:

How cool it that?!

Ok I am out. I am so tired and have a long day tommorrow. I have to go grocery shopping (25 miles from the house), play with pigs, and clean this house. It was nice to talk to yall. I like these Saturday night parties. -
Ladies, I am off to bed. Catherine thank you for a lovely evening and Amybird I am glad you made it back safe and sound. Good-night. -
Theresa I watched the video and that does look pretty neat. I give you credit for wanting to try.
