We're counting down until the kiddies and older children get back to school. Let's get together and catch up, hear about vacations and what you're going to do differently from last year where school lunches are concerned.

There's also the upcoming holidays and Memorial Day Weekend, which is fast approaching.

Drop by and spend an hour or so. All new members invited to participate and get to know one another. See you then.

Also want to know if anyone was brave enough to try eating something they have never before tried.

I was once brave enough to try sushi, which I think may have broken me of the habit of being adventurous!

This is the time of year when I celebrate not having to go school shopping. Nor do I need to start thinking about giving up my freedom and going back myself. No more pencils, no more homework, no more last-minute book reports. Yaaaaaay!

You sound chipper. I will ask though about your opinion on what Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver is trying to do in getting the bad food out of schools.

If school lunches are still as inedible as I remember, any change would be a change for the better. Seriously? I'm all in favor of teaching kids how to eat while they're still young and a little malleable. Snaps to him for making the effort!

I like that he was brave enough to show how much sugar the kids were consuming on a daily basis. It's horrendous.

Theresa, I heard that in a single 20-ounce Coke contains Sixteen point nine - that's 16.9 teaspoons of sugar!!! According to Sugarpolice.net:

Consuming ONE 20 ounce bottle everyday for a year of a beverage similar to Coca-Cola may lead to the following:

      - up to 26 pounds of increased body fat

      - over 25% increased risk for heart attack

      - over 45% increased risk for developing gout

      - 4% decrease in bone mineral density causing an increased risk for bone fractures (teenage girls who drank one 20 ounce bottle of a dark colored soda were five times more likely to experience a bone fracture)

      - over 50% increased risk for developing tooth decay and/or tooth loss

      - twice as likely to develop type 2 diabetes than a person who consumes less than one soda a month

I haven't had a vacation in over four years and that was to Coco Beach and Orlando, Florida. It was quite relaxing. I have been thinking about blue-green waters and island cocktails lately.

I read on someone's blog today a quote from, honestly, Leonardo da Vinci, saying that people need to take time off and relax. And here I thought vacations were a modern invention. Guess there really is nothing new under the sun!

Winning the Lotto would be welcome because I would travel, eat, cook with people from around the world and write about it. That would be ideal! Travel Europe & UK and USA and Canada. then South America's West Coast. I don't want to go over the Pacific Ocean. Atlantic Ocean seems more friendly.

I'm not a school mum, but I do believe in the Food Revolution taking place. There is an elementary school practically in my backyard and I am contemplating contacting the school Principle to see what I might be able to do to get their lunch menus on track toward healthy choices.

I remember eating escargot at a nightclub. They were chewy like rubber. The more I chewed the larger it seemed. Finally I utilized my dinner napkin. I have never had them since, however I am sure they were never prepared properly, so maybe if I ever go to Citronelle in Gorgetown, Washing, DC, I will ask Chef Michele Richard to prepare them for me.

This summer I did make a new BBQ sauce that I posted on this blog and it was stunning. I made a new buttermilk and sour cream cake which was all right. I tried bread sticks one more time, at Olive Garden but they were still unedible. I tried the cheddar biscuits at Ruby Tuesdays and I will promise you they were mealy and overly sweet.

Yes they do and they are cooked all the way through, unlike the Ruby Tuesday ones.

The Outback has a valid dark bread with a sweet undertone. Add on a bit of whipped butter and kapow. it gets your mouth ready for the entree.

I did visit a Japanese Asian fusion restaurant and was pleasantly surprised with the bouquet of grilled flavor they get on their vegetables. They seem a little dry instead of wet with a sauce, so the experience with chop sticks works well.

I would like to go to a Japanese Steakhouse again.

I used to make a flour-less chocolate cake t the hotel but this cake with it's intense blackness is just what I want for a cupcake. I will prepare them next week when my Brother and his wife are in town. This recipe is so very very rich that a tiny portion is perfect.
