Thanks for the tip FP! This is a baked cheescake so maybe I'll leave out the Marscapone this time... I'll be too busy to have a disaster in the kitchen and redo it! LOL

Are you baking the cheesecake of doing a cold mix one.
Mascarpone in a cold mix cheese cake works great.
It works in a baked one but I find It may crack slightly more than normal. be careful if it is baked and marbled as it might not have enough strength to hold it.

As I said cold mix works great.

I'd love to Theresa. I'll have to see how time works out. After we finish the movies the Tucson Zombie Walk kicks off at 7pm (MST) so, by the time we get back from that it'll be very, very late for the East coast folks. :)

Mascarpone is almost a cross between cream cheese and ricotta. Like Theresa, I haven't seen it in much beyond Tiramisu, but I imagine a cheesecake would be wonderful :)

Officially it is the "Wondertwins Horror Fest" :)

My friend, Sandy and I started it last year on the weekend before Halloween. We're both horror movie fans and love Halloween so last year we got together and spent an entire Saturday watching one horror movie after another.

This year we're expanding with a few more friends who are joining us. We have the traditional movie fare like popcorn, but usually also have Pizza or some such too. We also bring something fun to eat or snack on, thus the Cheesecake is to be our dessert snack.

And to anticipate the next question: Wondertwins is a nickname Sandy and I picked up working in a paranormal investigation group since we could pass for brother and sister and perform amazing feats of research and scientific report writing. ;)

The only real experience has been in it's use in the Italian dessert, Tiramisu. Other than that, it comes down to your personal taste and preference for your cheesecake.

The original NY Cheesecakes use sour cream and Philadelphia cream cheese. It is a combination I enjoy eating and the mascarpone cheese would, in my opinion, promote a much creamier or softened texture; much less robust than the original. It all comes down to what you want to eat. It should be delicious either way.

Now, what is a Horrors Fest (as in October Beer Fest ... short for festival) or is it Feast (as in a big dinner)? Do you dress up? Is it at your home or in the community? Tell us more, please. :D

I'm thinking of doing a marbled cheesecake for my annual "Horror Fest" this coming weekend.

I've got a great recipe from a friend back east for a cheesecake but have been wanting to experiment with Marscapone cheese that I've been seeing pop up everywhere.

I was thinking of combining a bit of marscapone for the more distinct flavor with regular cream cheese for the recipe.

What do the baking gurus think of this idea. First, will it work and secondly, do you think the taste would add to the recipe or detract.

Thoughts?
