I was thinking aboutopening a resturant and then decided I needed to do it a little bit differently. I got to thinking what if the menu was to encourage family eating. Like packages you can get for a family and have the resturant wet up where they could all sit at the table and talk and reconnect. Do you think something like this would go over? You could eat there or get it to go. Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated.

There are several restaurants here in PA set up in the 'family style' where everyone is seated at a long table and they pass food just like they would at home! I think it's a great idea

Hi Amy! That's a pretty great dream and I hope it comes true for you! I have eaten at a family-style restaurant (a long time ago) and it was fun! I would say that maybe doing some research would be a good idea...see what your competition is, do a business plan- find some resources that can steer you down the right road in setting the business up etc. Where I live the small business bureau is a great resource that is usually free....there are also free low-cost or no-cost planning sessions at the community college. Much luck to you...please keep us posted!

You could also print up a flyer with questions and multiple choice answers. You could do a survey in malls, in town, after church services. Ask people to fill out and then return the survey. This should let you know what the people in your immediate area want to have and how your ideas can best be brought to fruition.

We dont have any type of family style resturants here. I when for adrive today and looked in several phone books for the different towns around us and nothing close. I am asking around to find out if it would work here.

If there are none around, then so much the better! Nothing like being a pioneer

Are you still considering opening an eatery Amybyrd? What would be on your menu if you were serving the public today? You can always do it virtually, while waiting for the opportunity to really open your place. I will gladly be a customer.

We are looking for a building and planning the menu. We have one company we are getting fruit snacks (dried no extra ingredients added) from for the kids meals. (No Junk food is the idea here). We will have a family night, offer catering for events, and be open Monday thru Saturday. Closed Sunday. the menu is going to offer vegan, vegetarian and regular food. Mostly Southern. I am playing with the menu. My 5 year old has come up with the kids menu since he is a kid after all. We are also going to have what is called the internet cafe. That is a recipe from a cook off of line one day a week for the special. Their picture and web site will be put on a board in the resturant.

    Any other ideas are appreciated.

Amybyrd, This sounds as if you guys really got the ball rolling. There is only us to do our part praying for the right spot for your little cafe. Very cool. Please let us know more, keeping us in the loop. I am excited for you, and that your son is helping with the kids menu speaks volumes. He sounds excited too.
