You all are formally invited to write a blog for this Saturday,September 26, 2009, describing what you plan to wear, which recipes you will be bringing to share with our guests, along with a photo. Plus if you do not have a blog you can post a smallish photo right at the party. We want you to bring an appetizer, treats and friends. You will be encouraged to link your Saturday post so all can see your (photos of clothes) party frocks, or just the recipes of your drinks for the party.

Please pass the word and bring new members to Half Hour Meals. They can be your party guests. Let's see what a BUZZ we can create come party time.

8PM to 11PM (EST) or later, if things are going strong. We'll share a good time and get to introduce ourselves.

I'm a little bummed that I have company over Sat. night!!! I am going to have to excuse myself a couple of times to check in. I don't want to miss it. I hope we can continue on past 11PM EST, as I am on the West coast, and my company will likely be leaving around 8:30 or so (they have toddlers).

You can always take a photo of them and upload it along with the drinks you are having, either in the party discussion or on your blog and link to it in the discussions. Hopefully things will spill over into the early hours.

I am also in the West Coast and I will do my best to check this virtual cocktail party out here after I get off work which will be around 10:30-11 PM EST (7:30 - 8 PM PST). Thanks for the invite! If anyone has questions about wine, feel free to ask. I am first a wine lover and also a Certified Sommelier (Wine Steward) or "certified wine geek". LOL!

Just a reminder that party hats are not regulation costume, but we can light candles and play music. Some might want to play dress up or just hang out in your jeans and T-Shirt. Come any which way.

Wow Amy you cleaned up! SOunds like they really love your cooking. Gifts with ulterior motives. Mom will bake me a pizza on her new stone and she can fry me some of her pork chops in that skillet. I can hear them from here. It's great to be so adored by your family. Drink it up. Did you say you're making ham sandwiches? SOunds good. Make me one?

Plus you got a fondu set. Now that can be lots of fun.

I especially like eating with chop sticks. For years I ordered Chinese food but was not able to make the chop sticks pick up the food. So I would give up and use the fork. Well ... One day after rehearsal, my throat was scratchy and being on the road, I had to eat out. There was a small Chinese restaurant near the Holiday Inn in RIchmond, VA, where the band was staying for two weeks, and I decided to eat there. Dining alone, I took my book to have a very leisurely meal. When my meal came, the waitress brought me chop sticks and no utensils. I thought to myself, 'why not?' Two hours later, my meal was eaten and I had finally accomplished eating with the confounded wooden instruments. Nowadays I am adept and rather enjoy the flashback to my original stumbling in order to stand on the mountaintop.

Oh wow. This looks really good and new. www.everybodywantstobeitalian.com/ I am going to see it! Thanks for the alert.

By the way, I especially liked the words you used to describe the inspiration you get in your kitchen. You painted a lovely picture and made us understand what food really means to you.

I did say over there but okay, it is chocolate mousse and boat shaped levels of chocolate meringue and then it is iced with the mousse and topped with chocolate meringue pieces, for the crunch. It is so delicious.

I guess it is food has shaped my memories. When I think of food it brings me back and I hear the kitchen and the pots and pans. I hear my mother and father. Cooking was such a part of my child hood.

I thought only I heard and saw these types of things. Sometimes the whispered smells and sounds are genuine and I am whisked back to age five or ten or fourteen. Just like I have passed through a time-warp. It is surreal. I really miss these relatives and friends who have go onward. Food is the biggest trigger of my memories.

    Thank you Lady Goumet,
    What did I do today?
I pretty much went shopping all day long with my daughter.
I think she benefited the most, but it was fun.
I usually don't like to go to the mall. In fact I sort of hate it.
But, I guess I felt the need to spend some money today on my self, and so I did.

Oh, I agree Theresa so many times I feel like there is so much misdirected energy and families miss out on life. They try so hard to make memories that cost a fortune, but never realize that if they just take the time to make a mess in their kitchen with their family they will have the very best memories possible. They don't realize how quickly people pass through your life and no one can tell them this and if you do they don't really believe you..

I went to the movies last night. Went to see the new Bruce Willis movie which I thought looked pretty interesting, but I was disappointed. It wasn't very good at all, in fact, I wanted to leave after the first 30 mins., but noticed that my husband was all into the movie and didn't say a word. www.chooseyoursurrogate.com/?cmp=mov_tch_sur_psg_cast_bruce willis film
But....after an hour went by, I did say....."hey, do you like the movie"? and he said, "sure, so I didn't say anything else after that, and found myself reading and answering emails after that on my iphone. lol

I think you are right about that. One thing that stuck in my head about that movie is when she said, "EVERYTHING always taste better with butter, lots of butter". I was thinking, it was pretty amazing she didn't weigh 300 pounds, because she is right.
Today though, I think most people are more aware of what they eat and try to eat healthier.
Or rather, most try and eat for health not so much for taste.

I have baked a few good cakes and they never last more then a couple of hours.
Its not a good thing, not if your already over weight.
Then again at the time, when your eating it, all that is going threw my mind is: yummmmmmm

Actually, I am not so sure about that. I think that there are so many misdirections out there with food. One that comes to mind is the fat free foods. Actually these foods are loaded with calories so that they have some taste, but they not filling so you actually eat more. Butter, eggs and so many food were taboo for so long and actually they should have never have been. Your body needs a certain amount of fat so the liver will function properly.

The Europeans have it right, cook heavy and eat light. It is better than all of the chemicals they try to load us up with. Plus ... they get out and walk together, eat slower enjoying not only their food but each other and they have mandatory two months vacation in some countries. They take afternoon naps.

Here in the USA it's rush, rush, rush. We need to relax and enjoy.

Yes...you are correct...the Eurpeans do have it right...they eat with real ingredients and do much more walking, bike riding ,etc. and as a result that is why they stay slimmer than the Americans. We really should think about the added ingredients in so many foods. We also should not microwave. I know I sound ancient but I will not microwave! If I don't have the time I do not make it.

You know! I don't think I have ever tried peanut oil.. Tho I do know I would have to be careful who eats it as I have young 2 grandchildren allergic to peanuts.

    @Theresa,
When you said > Instead of Amy singing "Burn Baby Burn ... Disco Inferno," from the late 70's, she'll be singing, Churn Baby Churn while she is making homemade butter.

I looked up the burn, baby burn, videos as it brought back to many memories of the old days. I flashed back with all of the Saturday night Fever oldies. lol

I love this dance!!!!! Where do you come up with these? This is too much fun.

This was a very strange movie. The sort that transfixes your mind and will not allow you to move from your seat. I love it when they move their v shaped fingers in front of their eyes.

G_d yes, I love that dance also and the way she moves is very cute and sexy of course. I also think John T is at his best here with his moves.

I spend lots of time on YouTube watching dance and listening to music.

I was wondering that, too - I know chats are still around (haven't been to one since 2004) but it may be rather lonely there if it's open all the time. I would think for events it would be a lot of fun!

I was thinking we would only open the chat room on party nights if we have more. following such a busy conversation in a discussion format was a little difficult for me.

I'm so upset that I missed the big event! I had to work late Friday, and then had to do more work from home on Saturday. Before I knew it, it was Saturday afternoon and I had to get dinner ready for my real life dinner party! I didn't have time to do any photos or specialty drinks. We just stuck to cocktails and wine. I zonked out as soon as they left for the night.
