You all are formally invited to write a blog for this Saturday,September 26, 2009, describing what you plan to wear, which recipes you will be bringing to share with our guests, along with a photo. Plus if you do not have a blog you can post a smallish photo right at the party. We want you to bring an appetizer, treats and friends. You will be encouraged to link your Saturday post so all can see your (photos of clothes) party frocks, or just the recipes of your drinks for the party.
Please pass the word and bring new members to Half Hour Meals. They can be your party guests. Let's see what a BUZZ we can create come party time.
8PM to 11PM (EST) or later, if things are going strong. We'll share a good time and get to introduce ourselves.

I cannot wait for this event! I'm so excited to see what deliciousness everyone has to offer! -
I'm a little bummed that I have company over Sat. night!!! I am going to have to excuse myself a couple of times to check in. I don't want to miss it. I hope we can continue on past 11PM EST, as I am on the West coast, and my company will likely be leaving around 8:30 or so (they have toddlers). -
I am also in the West Coast and I will do my best to check this virtual cocktail party out here after I get off work which will be around 10:30-11 PM EST (7:30 - 8 PM PST). Thanks for the invite! If anyone has questions about wine, feel free to ask. I am first a wine lover and also a Certified Sommelier (Wine Steward) or "certified wine geek". LOL! -
Theresa,
Yes, I'm definitely planning to incorporate my real like party into the virtual world. I am working on my drink and food menu tonight!
Such a cool idea! -
-
Just a reminder that party hats are not regulation costume, but we can light candles and play music. Some might want to play dress up or just hang out in your jeans and T-Shirt. Come any which way. -

I am here and my day went great. Got a pizza stone, a fondu set, three frying pans, and an apple lane farms honey glazed spiral cut ham and making sandwiches. No booze for me tonight i will be the desginated driver as I had one last night and it made me sick.-
Wow Amy you cleaned up! SOunds like they really love your cooking. Gifts with ulterior motives. Mom will bake me a pizza on her new stone and she can fry me some of her pork chops in that skillet. I can hear them from here. It's great to be so adored by your family. Drink it up. Did you say you're making ham sandwiches? SOunds good. Make me one?
Plus you got a fondu set. Now that can be lots of fun.

Well, I could lie and say I have popped open a bottle or Port or mixed up some Planter's Punch but, in reality I have a Diet Coke with lemon and am polishing off the Maple Snickerdoodles I made this morning.
-
Yup, They're wonderful with maple and cinnamon and coated in sugar like traditional snickerdoodles. www.sugarpiesfood.com/2009/09/maple-snickerdoodles-recipe-trial-and.html

Hello everyone! Sorry I'm a little late. I was at my niece's, and I just got in...I am having a nice cup of fresh coffee. -
Well, I brought some balsamic marinated chicken dipped in buttermilk, chopped cornflakes, breadcrumbs and oatmeal...(saved a few pieces for my son, myself and daughter) -

For some reason I am craving Chinese Shrimp Egg Foo Young and toying with the idea of making the delivery call. Can I resist ... can I resist? Stay tuned. -
Theresa I can hear you singing.....sounds wonderful!...It was on sale 2 for $5.00. Well worth it .. -
-
I especially like eating with chop sticks. For years I ordered Chinese food but was not able to make the chop sticks pick up the food. So I would give up and use the fork. Well ... One day after rehearsal, my throat was scratchy and being on the road, I had to eat out. There was a small Chinese restaurant near the Holiday Inn in RIchmond, VA, where the band was staying for two weeks, and I decided to eat there. Dining alone, I took my book to have a very leisurely meal. When my meal came, the waitress brought me chop sticks and no utensils. I thought to myself, 'why not?' Two hours later, my meal was eaten and I had finally accomplished eating with the confounded wooden instruments. Nowadays I am adept and rather enjoy the flashback to my original stumbling in order to stand on the mountaintop.

On Saturday night I listen to the oldies and they have fake breaks of the old commercials ...I really enjoy it..I love the old jingles..so much fun -

WABC New York is talking about political stuff. Is this the same station, please?
Yes, Amy I am listening on-line. -
I just can't believe how quickly this sumer went by...it going to be Halloween already...but I like the fall weather compared to the summer. -
Guess what I am about to eat! I am going to have an Entenmann's Chocolate/chocolate Donut!
Do you all like them as much as I do?-
I don't eat the Entenmann's after attending culinary school. But I do remember a soda on Long Island Kotz. It's Kotz to be good. If they still have it there I want to get in touch with the distributor and have them ship to me.
I also like King's Pizza and on Staten Island, where I lived as a child 3.5 years, Joe's Pizza. Nothing like it in the world!
-
I will have to see if I have the recipe for them I collect copy cat recipes and I dont know if I have that one or not -

Shrimp Egg Foo Young with an extra white rice. Four Shrimp Spring Rolls, Shrimp Pad Thai Noodles and Shrimp Won Ton Soup. See how it turns into four to six meals? We won't eat much, but we'll have a late lunch tomorrow and lunch for Monday, too. The rice and the gravy from the foo young lasts for three days.
My beer is pretty warm. I have only sipped half of it. Cheers. Anyone have something good to toast?

I am going to google it to see if i recognize it.
Oh wow. This looks really good and new. www.everybodywantstobeitalian.com/ I am going to see it! Thanks for the alert.
By the way, I especially liked the words you used to describe the inspiration you get in your kitchen. You painted a lovely picture and made us understand what food really means to you.
-
-
I really love old movies. The classics. I just never get tired of watching them. I suppose that is why they are classics. -
I guess it is food has shaped my memories. When I think of food it brings me back and I hear the kitchen and the pots and pans. I hear my mother and father. Cooking was such a part of my child hood.-
I thought only I heard and saw these types of things. Sometimes the whispered smells and sounds are genuine and I am whisked back to age five or ten or fourteen. Just like I have passed through a time-warp. It is surreal. I really miss these relatives and friends who have go onward. Food is the biggest trigger of my memories.
-
-
I guess I sound pretty silly liking all those movies but I feel that life can be so serious that I like a movie to tickle your senses, not make us even more wary about what is to be... -
Thank you Lady Goumet,
What did I do today?
I pretty much went shopping all day long with my daughter.
I think she benefited the most, but it was fun.
I usually don't like to go to the mall. In fact I sort of hate it.
But, I guess I felt the need to spend some money today on my self, and so I did.
-
-
Oh, I agree Theresa so many times I feel like there is so much misdirected energy and families miss out on life. They try so hard to make memories that cost a fortune, but never realize that if they just take the time to make a mess in their kitchen with their family they will have the very best memories possible. They don't realize how quickly people pass through your life and no one can tell them this and if you do they don't really believe you.. -
I went to the movies last night. Went to see the new Bruce Willis movie which I thought looked pretty interesting, but I was disappointed. It wasn't very good at all, in fact, I wanted to leave after the first 30 mins., but noticed that my husband was all into the movie and didn't say a word. www.chooseyoursurrogate.com/?cmp=mov_tch_sur_psg_cast_bruce willis film
But....after an hour went by, I did say....."hey, do you like the movie"? and he said, "sure, so I didn't say anything else after that, and found myself reading and answering emails after that on my iphone. lol -
What a wonderful way to spend your birthday with your daughter. I am sure she had a great time. -
-
LadyGourmet,
I just love your Chocolate Almond Espresso Cake,
www.halfhourmeals.com/recipe/chocolate-almond-espresso-cake
I haven't tried it yet, but have decided just now, that I will have to make it tomorrow and report back to you to let you know how it went.
Looks soooo delicious!!!
And looks so easy to make. Thank you for sharing that recipe.
-
-
Ok what do you need to make fondu I am dying to make some and have no clue where to start. Tried and true recipes would be best as I have never had it nor made it before and have a beautiful set staring me down. -
I went to see Julie and Julia. It was o.k., but I always enjoy the pop corn, no matter how the movie turns out! -
Oh my fondu was all the craze in the 70's! There must be some real good recipes out there. I think Emeril did an entire show on fondu.-
I went threw the fondu craze myself. There was a time when everyone had to have some kind of a fondu evening with both family and friends as a social event.
Kind of funny when I think back of all the different kinds of foods we came up with to try and be different to use our dip stick fork for. lol
Who can relate to that? hahaha
-
I think that sounded like "my" fondu was the craze. I meant to say.. oh my, fondu was all the craze in the 70's. o.k..glad I straightened that out..lol -
My sister worked for Dillards in management and they had them on clearence and with her discount she got 4 of them. One for mom, one for me, one for her and one for a friends wedding. I do not even know where to start chocolate or cheese. i have a chocolate fountain so I am thinking cheese -
Just dropping in to say hello. Just got back from a party where none of the food had salt. Blegh. Any suggestions for a midnight snack?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGIE!!! -
I think that movie will help to get people to cook again. I understand that Julia Child's book has been selling again. Good for her! She must be smiling down from Heaven seeing people reconnect with food again.-
I think you are right about that. One thing that stuck in my head about that movie is when she said, "EVERYTHING always taste better with butter, lots of butter". I was thinking, it was pretty amazing she didn't weigh 300 pounds, because she is right.
Today though, I think most people are more aware of what they eat and try to eat healthier.
Or rather, most try and eat for health not so much for taste.
-
-
A midnight snack? How about eggs. I love eggs sometimes when I go to sleep I can't wait to get up so I can have breakfast!-
Gosh.....I have a problem when I am on this website.
Problems is, I start to view recipes that people submit and then I get hungry.
Doesn't matter what time it is or if I have already eaten.
Its terrible. Too many good things to try and make, and I can't do them all at the same time. Or can I?
Anyone else having this problem?
I swear I can smell food when I am on here.
What to do? -
Yes, for me, it can get a little ridiculous as you tell yourself, its ok, I'll make that and freeze it or save it for later, but that never works, you end up eating it all. Especially the dessert on here.
I have baked a few good cakes and they never last more then a couple of hours.
Its not a good thing, not if your already over weight.
Then again at the time, when your eating it, all that is going threw my mind is: yummmmmmm
-
I'm sorry if my replies are all over the place! I just realized that you klick the reply to the persons comment. I told you I was not that computer savvy. -
Ugh! I hope I am not too late. I completely forgot until I looked at the sticky thread on BC.. And then remembered that it is Saturday! -
Actually, I am not so sure about that. I think that there are so many misdirections out there with food. One that comes to mind is the fat free foods. Actually these foods are loaded with calories so that they have some taste, but they not filling so you actually eat more. Butter, eggs and so many food were taboo for so long and actually they should have never have been. Your body needs a certain amount of fat so the liver will function properly.-
I dont cook low fat hubby wont eat it. I was putting half ground turkey in the meat loaf until he caught me and wouldnt eat it after that. He is pickyer than my kids. My kids will eat any thing not him. I have goteen him to eat Mexican, pizza and chinese. He didnt eat them before we got together. -
The Europeans have it right, cook heavy and eat light. It is better than all of the chemicals they try to load us up with. Plus ... they get out and walk together, eat slower enjoying not only their food but each other and they have mandatory two months vacation in some countries. They take afternoon naps.
Here in the USA it's rush, rush, rush. We need to relax and enjoy. -
Yes...you are correct...the Eurpeans do have it right...they eat with real ingredients and do much more walking, bike riding ,etc. and as a result that is why they stay slimmer than the Americans. We really should think about the added ingredients in so many foods. We also should not microwave. I know I sound ancient but I will not microwave! If I don't have the time I do not make it.
-
-
I am looking into getting a milk cow. Then I will have fresh cream, milk, cheese and butter I cant wait. I will have to milk it twice a day is the only draw back, -
-
-
Hummm that does look good and so easy.
We need to relax more and take it easy more?
OK.....I am looking at my wine rack now.
What should I pull out Theresa? Red, White or the bubbly stuff?
I actually should do that, it is a special night for me
You guys pick. I actually have a good selection in front of me.
Daniel, what shall it be?

Instead of Amy singing "Burn Baby Burn ... Disco Inferno," from the late 70's, she'll be singing, Churn Baby Churn while she is making homemade butter. -
We don't eat too many fried foods, but when the recipe calls for oil, I usually use olive oil. extra virgin, it seems to make the food taste better then any other oils that I have tried. -
Well ...I will say God Bless and goodnight to everyone and I am so pleased to have met all of you....Thank you... -
@Theresa,
When you said > Instead of Amy singing "Burn Baby Burn ... Disco Inferno," from the late 70's, she'll be singing, Churn Baby Churn while she is making homemade butter.
I looked up the burn, baby burn, videos as it brought back to many memories of the old days. I flashed back with all of the Saturday night Fever oldies. lol

The Party's Over .... I have turned into the party pooper.
Goodnight ... please do not get up. Continue to party into the wee hours of the morning. It has been so lovely sharing time with all of you. Happy Birthday Amy, Trish and Angie! -
Wow, did you guys have fun! I was out with hubby and the moment I got home, I fell asleep. Very unlike me, but yesterday was rather busy. I won't miss the next one, for sure! -
I'm so upset that I missed the big event! I had to work late Friday, and then had to do more work from home on Saturday. Before I knew it, it was Saturday afternoon and I had to get dinner ready for my real life dinner party! I didn't have time to do any photos or specialty drinks. We just stuck to cocktails and wine. I zonked out as soon as they left for the night.
