Regional & Local Delicacies

Every place has it's own special delicacies. Sometimes they're things that everyone seems to like but often they're pretty specific and other people might consider them strange.
For example, being from South Carolina originally I am a huge fan of boiled peanuts. In fact, they're one of the things I miss most living in the West now.
I grew up on this little Southern delicacy and although you can find dozens (maybe hundreds) of weird tasting concoctions these days, I still prefer my very simple recipe of fresh green peanuts (Virginia jumbos are my favorites) boiled in salty water with a little beer!
My spouse is from Wisconsin originally so I have learned about Cheese Curds through his family and was surprised to even find some in a specialty food store recently! Now if only they'd import some green peanuts too!
So, I'm wondering... what are some the local delicacies where you're from?

Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs, and this summer they are plentiful once more! I really prefer snow, dungess, or king crab, because they are so much easier to get to the meat. Having said this, there is something so memorable about sitting down with family and friends at a table covered with clean newspaper. Wooden mallets, rolls of paper towels, and empty buckets stand by waiting for discarded shells and empty hulls. When they bring the steamed crabs and shrimps, it is so much fun to dive in and crack, suck and pull out this tender and tasty meat. The Old Bay Seasoning, even toned down with melted butter, sticks to ones fingers and it ends up leaving a burn mark round my lips. I am sensitive to spicy. You must try this if ever you come to Maryland, WDC, or VIrginia.

Sitting at a picnic table in the summer or fall at Wellfleet Harbor and eating a Clam Roll is the best! Wellfleet is located on the Cape (Cape Cod) in MA. The deep fried whole clams topped with tartar sauce tastes scrumptious in a lightly toasted hot dog roll. Simply delicious! Gazing at the boats coming in is all part of the atmosphere while breathing in the salty air. And ... at the picnic tables there are other chatty vacationers who travel from other parts of New England. In New England we all have our favorite clam shack.

In Pennsylvania it's a lot of PA Dutch stuff: Lebanon bologna (HAVE to have it at least once in your life!), shoo-fly pie, German potato salad, dandelion salad with hot bacon dressing (oh, too DIE for!), apple butter, chow-chow (www.enter.net/kart/kart.pl?action=moreinfo&sku=wwcc00&cart=c90960x1) and funnel cakes! Can't NOT have funnel cakes.-
We actually have a lot of those from where I'm from in South Carolina. The area I grew up in is known as the "Dutch Fork" (from Deutsch, not Holland).
The majority of families in the area are of German descent and about 40 miles away we even have a small Mennonite community left over from the early 19th Century. Their baked goods are to die for and Yoder's Restaurant has some of the best traditional "Dutch" food outside PA.
