For anyone in the US that celebrates T-Day, do you host or go elsewhere? If you host, what do you serve?
This year is a bit different for us, my mother-in-law is not able to come to our home so we will go there and cook up dinner for us all (usually 13 total) and spend the say with her at her home.

Going to my daughter's in-laws who also happen to be close friends of ours. This works great because that way she does not have to choose one over the other or split the day, and we all get to see our kids and grandchildren. We are bringing the turkey....everyone loves it and there are sadly never any leftovers for turkey sandwiches! -
I know! My husband looks forward to his "day after" turkey sandwich with lots of mayo. Last year, no turkey left...you should have seen his sad little face! -
We have two sometimes three. We have one with my hubby's family and it is all traditional stuff and every one brings something. We have one with my parents and the last few years we went out. It is near or on my mom's birthday every year so we celebrate both. This year we are going out to a steak house some where. And then if my step kids are not mad at me we have them over and celebrate here. (They dont like my rules in my house around my kids) And this year the church is having a big chicken stew for the community. We have got to round up 200 lbs of onions to give you a clue how big theyare doing it this year. -
Until my eldest sister moved to Portland last winter, we all would come here, where we are living now. I have decided to cook and have dinner here. The first time I have hosted since last century. We are always having to go to two dinners, never getting to be home, but not this time.
My middle sister and brother-in-law will come here. Everyone else is on the Oregon, Virginia, Maryland and Florida. My niece said she is going to New York to visit her Dad and his family this year. Unless things change this is the current plan.
Things are not the same since our parents are now gone. During holidays, something vital is lacking. -

Derek ... Why don't you consider choosing something to prepare for dinner? Pick out a recipe here or find one in a book and we can help you with any tips you might need. If you haven't done much cooking, you could pick out something easy. It would really impress your family if you cooked a dish.
Let us know. It can be a fun project.

My brother and I usually take turns having Thanksgiving dinner at each other’s home.
This year it will be at my home. I like to make it fun by having a “food contest” that day and we all vote on the different kinds of foods that are brought in.
I give out 4 prizes. 1 for best side dish, one for best original invention, and one for best dessert and let’s not forget, one for “good try but, what were you thinking”?-
You are to much fun. We never do things like this. Aw. But the last prize, I would give to my niece, for the green beans and fried onion rings out of a can. And one for my middle sister's last year, oyster dressing (a family tradition) because it really was quite inedible! Even she didn't really eat it. Those little food disasters happen to us all.

I just reviewed Diane Morgan's recently published The New Thanksgiving Table. You can read the review at bluehatman.com. But in a word, this a compendium of delicious recipes. I don't hesitate recommending it as a valuable resource. Show up at the in-laws with this tucked under your arm and you'll be able to plan a meal that will go down in family history. I swear... BHM -
We were going to New Orleansd this year, my husband's brother hosts a really nice dinner. Last year was the first year we went back since we moved to TN.
So I'm not sure if we're frying a turkey this year or if I'm roasting one in the oven. If I can get my hands on some decent oysters, I'm going to try an oyster stuffing torte i've been thinking about in my head. -
Since I am cooking this year, I have decided to let my middle sister off the hook, so she can relax with the men folk. I shall prepare it all. I am going to put on an Italian twist with some seafood, too. Joe doesn't care for meat or poultry.
I am already writing out my menu.
How about you? Anything different for the holiday this year? -
I am trying to find something that will wow the inlaws and brother and sister inlaws. Every time we get together they ask me to bring the drinks since I have the kids and the farm. I told them this year I was cooking something. Still looking and I will know when I find it It will smack me up side the head. Oh and I am making Turkey and dumplings with the left over turkey. -
Living away from our families, we are hosting Thanksgiving and as per tradition opening our doors to all people we know who also live away from their families. This years menu will be:
Smoked organic turkey
Garlic and bacon flavored mashed potatoes
Brown sugar crusted yams
Sauté greens beans with mushrooms and garlic
Deserts:
People will bring them but I will be making pumpkin bars -
My pigs said they would eat Clyde. He wont feel a thing and it would be quick. I still cant belive he looks so good. ;P -
I have all these ideas swirling inside my head about the menu I am planning. This giving season will be so interesting, for I feel as if I will also be sharing with my families at BlogCatalog.com and HalfHourMeals.com . Indeed this will be a most fulfilling holiday season.
