Hi everyone it's my first post here:) Today I wrote a blog post about the changing seasons and how it makes me feel I was wondering what your opinions are. As we welcome a new season what are your favorite things about autumn? What do you look forward to the most? What are your favorite things to cook or bake?
You are welcome to join the discussion on my blog as well or just post here.

Fall is my favorite time of year. I can't think of one thing I *don't* look forward too (except maybe more rain) and the cooking starts in earnest for me about now. Soup, stew, bread, cake, muffins, pie - you name it! Each year we have our own 'Harvest Party' here at home. I make a table filled with things like glazed sausage & ham balls, beer braised kielbasa, roast garlic mashed potatoes, breads, pound cake, apple pie, pumpkin muffins etc. We bob for apples, carve a pumpkin and make caramel apples. Total FUN! -
This is the time of year here we eat homemade soups, homemade bread, beans at every meal, the food that puts weight on and fills you up. Hubby is happy with a big plate of beans, fried taters, and cornbread. My favorite thing about this time of year are rosted pumpkin seeds and getting to bake all the time. And less out side work. -
Like Anne, the cooking starts in earnest for me this time of year. Soups, stews, breads, chili, roasts and meatloaf...see a pattern? Comfort Food!! I love the chill in the air, the smell of a fire in the fireplace, knowing that the holidays are just around the corner. This is absolutely my favorite time of year! -
I have two interpretations of Fall:
I love Fall in Louisiana The snap of the leaves rustling on the ground. High school and college football. Gumbo weather!
Then there is "Fall" in Southern California, where I've been since 2000. Nothing but dry, hot winds and the promise of wildfires. The only good thing about it is you can actually get a second summer-like planting season starting in August. I have tomatoes and peppers that look better now than they did in July! -
Much like MakeRoux I'm a transplant to the Southwest. Fall has always been my favorite time of year being from South Carolina. It always meant an end to the heat and humidity of late Summer and crisp days blazing with color. It also always brought Halloween, my favorite holiday (yes, I loved and love it more than Christmas)! There's nothing quite like fall with it's foggy and chilling mornings that give way to days so brilliant and golden they are almost like a fantasy.
Of course, being in Arizona now, I miss my beloved Fall. Last Halloween it was 85 here. That's just wrong! Here in Tucson it begins to feel like Fall when Winter comes and there are no beautiful leaves and crisp mornings with frost on the pumpkins. Nope, here there are cacti, dirt, rocks and sun, so much sun.
But, this Fall I will be harvesting grapefruit from the tree whose branches are bending under the weight of the fruit right now. So, I guess it's a payoff. Just grapefruit picking instead of apple picking. -
Great to read all of your thoughts and responses. Reading through the comments here and the ones that were left on my blog, I have to say that the most common thing people look forward to is the soups and all the baking. How great it that?:) So I think that over the next few months we will be seeing a lot of new mouthwatering recipes here on HHM, can't wait. -
I wanna live where Sugarpies lives! Here the leaves are colored and started falling a couple of weeks ago. The days are rapidly shortening and temps cooling. It won't be long before the snow and ice arrive and I'm not looking forward to that at all. The only time I like winter is when I'm watching it through a window beside a crackeling fireplace with a mug of something hot, steamy, and delicious held in both hands.
