Anyone here ever decide to visit a particular region of the world in order to eat that type of cuisine?
Ever think about New Orleans for their jambalaya? Disney World for the Gulf Shrimp? New York for pizza? Las Vegas for dessert? What about Paris for escargot?
Tell me how you decide where to vacation, if it might be for the food, or a wish of yours to travel and eat your way through the streets, cities or countryside of that particular region.
Please elaborate because your answer just might trigger some buried dream of another member.

I want to go to Paris and spend some time in their finest cooking school for pastry, to round off what I have already studied. -
I would LOVE to go to New Orleans mostly just for the food. You are indeed so correct Theresa, there is nothing like traveling for the food, a special gem of a restaurant hidden in the middle of nowhere, then use the escape to actually see the area. From the places I have been:
NY to me screams Juniors cheesecake, hot dog at a Papaya Juice stand, A nice steak at Peter Luger.
Charleston: Oysters, shecrab, fried green tomatoes
WI: I yet have to learn more about the whole cheese world of WI, but learning to absolutely love the cheese curds. As the season approaches, going to Madison Farmer's Market and eating the cheese curbs slightly warm over a skillet and with all types of spices on them
Iowa: the very best peaches and cream corn I have ever tasted from a farm not too far from Ankeny, IA
Waxhaw, NC: a little gem of a restaurant: Rippington's - everything, absolutely everything is amazing here and their key lime pie... wow-
I would love to see the cheese factories (making of cheeses) in Wisconsin. I guess I do when I see the shows on the FoodTV channel.
Key Lime Pie ... I have only had excellent KLP served to me three times. I need a very lime (kicked up flavor) recipe because when I taste one that looks good but doesn't stand up, I get so disappointed. I am on the search for KLP recipe. I do not want a creamy one I want one like lemon mer pie. Tart and sweet. -
Well I too have been wanting the "right" key lime pie. Actually will ask an old neighbor in NC to see if she can "steal" (ask for) the recipe from that restaurant! It is exactly as you are saying, not creamy but sweet and tart. Since I have tried others and I have not been able to finish them.
In terms of cheeses, you have yourself an open house to visit WI

I love vacation at th beach due to the fresh sea food. I live over 8 hours away from salt water. The other place I really want to go is Japan and China. I love thier food. -
When I planned my first trip to Paris, thoughts of French cuisine danced through my head, and I was not disappointed. There's a small bistro where my son and I always ate on my last night in town, and whenever I'm low, I go back there in my mind.-
No, it was too cold, and the tablecloths were white. It's a smallish neighborhood place. What I like the best about French restaurants, besides the food, is the fact that they let you sit at your table until you're ready to leave. And yes, LadyGourmet I have wonderful memories of my times in Paris.

I don't really go away. I plan different foods and have the meal transport me to where I am dreaming about. -
I will be signing off now. Goodnight ladies. It was fun. Hugs and Blessings to you, Catherine -
My brother and his wife just sold their home in North Carolina and have placed a bid on a condo (three years old) in Florida, where they presently reside. After talking to him last night, I got to thinking about when we lived in Miami, FL and our parents would leave all of us in the station wagon, to go food shopping. Don't worry, it was nighttime, safe and my eldest sister was 17 years old. Anyway, they would bring the grocery bags out and our Dad would have huge golden fried shrimp with the sauces. We would sit and eat and talk for about 45 minutes. I miss those times we shared.
So when the oil in the Gulf is gone, I will visit them for some fresh Gulf Shrimp. They were like nothing else. Flavor was unique. -
Nothing better than hitting the SC/NC/GA coast for seafood. Charleston and Savannah in particular are great destinations to just pig out on local fare.

I would like to travel to Belgian and eat some of the waffles, just as Agatha Christi's detective talks about, in her mysteries. -
By chance today, I met a woman who just returned from Tucany. She said the wine or vino there is incredible. She just purchased a home and it is true that when the owners move out, that they really do take the kitchen, and anything else which is not nailed down. (I watch a lot of HGTV.) She wanted a vacation home there for the area but most importantly, for the food.
