Weirdest Food You Love

The other night I was treated to a passaladiere (a french flatbread pizza) made with braised duck leg, duck gizzards, foie gras, and topped with a fried duck egg. It didn\'t sound like anything I would ever eat, but now I can\'t wait to go back to that restaurant and get one again?\r\n\r\nAnyone here want to share their culinary unexpected surprises?

I adore pissaladiere - and with all that other on it, I would think it would just be better

Weird? Hmmmm - raw quail egg, I guess - I like tobiko and quail egg sushi. My favorite sandwich is weird - according to my kids: PB, cream cheese, sliced banana, dill pickle, bacon bits and American cheese - usually on wheat toast.

I like that. Have not had brown bread from a can in years. I remember it being very good.

I guess I have no weird food that I can think of unless bread and real butter counts. I am boring and plain as far as food is concerned due to lack of choices where I live

You're not weird. Use your cookbooks and create anything you want. Use some recipes right here.

Amy, I'm with you on that one. Can't think of weird food that I love. My kids think I'm weird for loving raw fish.

my hubby thinks I am weird for my like of ethnic foods. I love anything like that. It took me forever to get him to eat Mexican, Chinese, Pizza and noodles. I concoured most of that even though he still says Chinese makes his stomach hurt. I also collect cookbooks and fix alot of diffrent foods for my kids but hubby doesnt like to eat anything but beans, potatoes, hambugerm and sausage.

If you get Chinese food from a restaurant, ask they not use any MSG because this might be what is making his stomach hurt. It makes my pulse rapid and my heart pound. I get dizzy and nauseous. I order it without it.

Mine is not a weird food but a weird combination. I always put crunched up potato chips on top of my chili!

Boiled peanuts. Not weird at all to my fellow Southerners but can puzzle the heck of people from up north.

Why would you boil peanuts and how do you pull this off?

When I was perhaps ten years old, I would grab the cold jar of olives from the refrigerator, turn on the television and scoot myself underneath the black sofa. From this position, I would watch my cartoons and suck the pimento from the olive to enjoy before eating the green olive. I admit I was hiding from my Father so he would know I was raiding the olive jar ... again.

ok, hopefully I will not shock anyone, so let me start by explaining I am originally from Portugal. I noticed that many people here in the States make fun of me or give me a hard time about certain "weird foods" I eat such as:
    chicken gizzards
    pigs or cows feet
    Fish heads
    Chicken feet
    Cow tongue and so on.

Bless your heart! These foods are not "weird" at all, Just forgotten! Chicken feet make the best soup. and as for pigs feet and knuckles why that is the best in tomato sauce. The cow tongue actually can be found in a good Jewish deli and makes a great sandwich. Chicken gizzards are also so good and are good in soup and also help to make a great gravy. Growing up I ate all of these foods and found them so good. Now I find that was once considered "weird" food is now "gourmet" and extremely pricey. An example of such a food would be oxtails. I saw them in the butcher for almost $10.00 per pound. The butcher used to give them away when I was growing up. They make an excellent soup. I find that foods that might be considered "weird" are simply forgotten due to the fact that people want everything in a hurry and therefore the foods that take more than the speed of a microwave are pushed to the "back burner", and are no longer considered part of the "norm".

      Lady Gourmet,
I am so happy you made those observations. Those are seen by many still today as "poor people's" or "peasant's" food. Yet I absolutely love them. Indeed about oxtail. I cannot believe how expensive they are becoming. I LOVE oxtail with lentils.

My favorite odd snack is a dill pickle, covered with cream cheese and wrapped in ham. it is really yummy. I also like pickle wrapped in bologna or fried black olives

Pop microwave popcorn. Open a can of tuna in water. Drain off 60% of the water. Wash hands and fingers + nails thoroughly. pick up a few pieces of popcorn and grab a bit of tuna. It's like a tuna popcorn sandwich. It's great!

@ jplanet - This sounds like something you'd see at Au Pied de Cochon restaurant in Montreal! I just did a post on fried duck eggs... but I served them over duck fat hash browns... not exactly as decadent!

Chicken hearts sauteed in butter and garlic. YUM. Hadn't had them until just this January. My six year old son devoured them too! So good, I even blogged about it.
