I'm going camping this weekend and Theresa111 got me thinking...if you do camp, what kinds of food do you cook? What are some of your favorites? We're cooking kabobs this time and maybe some potatoes, onions, bell pepper, cheese, all wrapped up in foil and then tossed onto the hot embers. S'mores are a must for dessert and we'll also be doing bananas (still in the peel), split down the middle, with some chocolate and marshmallows stuck in there, all wrapped back up in foil and warmed until gooey. Yum!

Wow! I do not go camping. Please tell us how you make a campfire. you need to keep warm and to eat. Please start there. Oh and have a safe and fun time! Ooh! Take pictures of the night sky!!! Yes! Remember to pack the camera and plenty of batteries.

P.S. I will be back after I eat and play dice, long-distance , with my sister.

I am not a camper, so I think I would stay just long enough until my sandwiches and thermos of coffee ran out. Please, stay warm and be careful.

We fry fish at the creek on those propane stoves, we cook on a grill, We also cook using foil packets with all kind of things in them. Veggies and hamburger patties. My hubby takes a 2 inch round stick. Removes the bark. We then wrap a canned biscuit around the end and up the sides to make a cup. Make sure the bottom is sealed. We then cook it over the fire. (Slowly)It twists right off the stick. Then we stuff it with butter and jelly, or scrambled eggs and bacon. We go camping every year for a week at a time some times several time a year depending on the hubby's schedule. We have a place on the creek a mile from the house that a friend lets us use. And sometimes we go to the river at a place called Waterloo Alabama.

When I go camping, it's with a back pack and a tent, so I'm limited in what I can bring. That being said...

You can't go wrong with cowboy eggs and bacon in the AM. It's decidedly unhealthy, but oh so worth it. Cut your bacon into thirds or quarters, get it frying, and throw scrambled eggs in the same pan once your bacon's ready!

If you've got access to some green chili (canned or home made), that's a real crowd pleaser, heated up and poured over flour tortillas.

Everything! When we camp we take the kids' favorites - burgers and hot dogs. I also like smoked sausage over the fire and potatoes in the cast iron pans we take.

Several years ago we went camping for 10 days with (then) 6 kids. What a trip! We took a lot of cans along and I even made a roughly mashed hummus to go with whole wheat pitas we found at a tiny little grocery near the campground.

A lively chat. What about clothes? Who do you pack for a whole week and do you wash in the creek or river?

What a cool camping trip and the food turned out well. I really liked the pool because it took me back to when I was a kid, swimming in some of the pools in Miami. Were there other families camping on the grounds, too?
