I loved the movie Under The Tuscan Sun, and whenever HGTV's , House Hunter International is on, I pay particular attention to Americans and Europeans who travel to Italy to buy homes.

You can tell they are dreaming about cooking in their very own Italian kitchens; after a lot of renovations are completed. So many times people with money buy ruins and then build or renovate. The kitchen is that special room that always gets so much attention.

Why is the thought of living and cooking in Italy so romantic? Does anyone out there besides me want to travel there?

I'd jump off early and land in Provence

I wil probably never get to Provence - and I'm OK with that, really. I have Peter Mayle to woo me with his works. I live in Provence vicariously.

The Italian experience! I love the color and the "old world" feel of the kitchens. Everything is not all shiny and new, and that is part of the beauty, I think, and the bold use of color.

I know. The rustic charm. Lately, I have also been wanting to visit Greece's coastline, with their white stone houses and steps that lead to the sea. How romantic.

What we are wanting is romance with our dinner.

The old world feeling is indeed something I miss about Europe. The old bricks, stones, tiles, riches woods. There is certainly a beautiful romanticism to all this along with the smells inside and outdoors

Start planning your trip and you'll be there before you realize it. Change the word someday to springtime 2011, or something like that.

I don't particularly want to move to Italy, but Paris (and then Provence) are where I would go.

My wife and I went 2 years ago and now we are saving our pennies to go again. When we went we did the classic tourist trip Rome, Venice, Milan and Florence. Next time we are spending more time in Tuscany and then traveling down the Mediterranean coast. I have always thought it would be fun to get a group of Italian foodies together and do the Tuscany tour. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

The whole Italian Riviera has amazing tiny restaurants. Areas around Santa Margherita, Portofino, etc. I prefer northern Italian food to Southern. That is in general. Also around Courmayeur there is a fantastic restaurant I believe it is called La Maison de Filippo. Outstanding food. I am talking MANY years ago, it used to be fixed price and they just keep on bringing food.

Dont'cha just love the way they serve family style? I just have to figure out how to go. My Priest, Father Lou landed today in France, near Spain. He is going to visit Lourdes. I wish I could transport myself. I love Our Lady.

When I go be assured that I will take my pillow, creamy super-soft throw and my tiny little (stuffed) dog. I actually hold him by his neck when I travel, to be safe. (Why are you looking at me that way? I told you that deep down inside a part of me is a childlike five). I like the new experience and believe in holding onto that thrilling feeling I get when doing something I long to do.

Otherwise I am sophistacated and worldly.

Sometimes just dreaming keeps us all motivated. Remember the line from the song in South Pacific, "if you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true".

Frances Mayes has a home here in North Carolina, about 12 miles from where I live. She is doing a Tuscan cooking demo and launch for her new book here next week and I am crushed because I can't go!

Oh really? Sorry you cannot but perhaps you could send a friend in your place to take photographs. I am getting ready to plug this movie in to listen to, while I type away. Lovely weekend!

I wish I could, but it's $150 per person which includes the meal, wine and a copy of her new book. I'd pay that much to meet Frances and get an autographed cookbook...just don't have time

Penny, I live in Durham. My wife loved the book and the movie, which we saw just before we went to Italy. I am curious where you found the information about the meal and book deal as I think this would be a great surprise present. I don't see it on www.francesmayesbooks.com or on www.athomeincortona.com.

I think it's not Italy or France, but it could work. Sorry the function was Thursday and not next Thursday. Bummer!

I think the Guild for NC Bloggers would be great. I have been kicking around the idea of inviting a few other NC food bloggers to my house for the weekend to talk about food blogs in particular. I mentioned this to a blogger from Florida and she wanted to come as well. I thought we would do some cooking and maybe go out to a good foodie restaurant, but mainly talk bout food blogging, photography, site promotion, etc. Let me know if you want some assistance, input, ideas, etc.

I like the idea of getting together....I bet Rebecca Subbiah from Chow and Chatter would be interested...she's in Winstom-Salem, and maybe Kara from Food Baby, she's in Greensboro. I would love help with the Guild idea....maybe we could talk about it at your foodie get together. Any idea when you want to do this?

Over the past few days, I have been viewing ten minutes (or less), videos by Bertolli, featuring Rocco, Marisa and Dan. "Into The Heart of Italy", and it is also a sweepstakes. I wish I could do this, too!
    www.villabertolli.com/home.aspx
There is another sweepstakes to "Win a Trip to New York".

I have met so many foodies from Italy that when I get over there it'll be a neat visit and we can cook together in the kitchen and sit down to enjoy meal and talk. The more I think about it the more I am convinced I'll do it!
