Member Recipe Review: Chorizo Pulao

Food november 015

I was thinking about another delicious member recipe to review and decided it would be fun to try some exotic comfort food. I didn’t have to look far, because right there on the Half Hour Meals front page was Jurate’s recipe for Chorizo Pulao, and boy did it look yummy!

For those of you who may not be sure what “Pulao” is, it’s another name for Pilaf , as in rice Pilaf. Also known as Polao, Pilau, Pilav, Pilaff, or Plov (depending on what country you’re in), Pilaf is dish in which a grain, such as rice or cracked wheat, has been browned in oil and then cooked in a seasoned broth, and, depending on local cuisine, vegetables, meats, and aromatics. Pilaf and similar dishes are common to Middle Eastern, Central and South Asian, East African, Latin American and Caribbean cuisine.

I love rice and I’m a big fan of rice recipes from other countries, so I was excited about trying Jurate’s recipe for Chorizo Pulao from Goa (a state in India). Made with fragrant basmati rice, onions, aromatic spices, and Chorizo sausage, this Pulao is an exotic departure from the rice dishes you are probably used to. It’s spicy, but not “hot spicy”, rather this dish is flavorful and aromatic. My husband, who is somewhat suspicious of new foods, absolutely raved about how good this rice was. We ate it as a main dish, but I think it would be equally good as an accompanyment to roasted pork or chicken.

Try this wonderful rice dish for yourself and be pleasantly surprised just how amazing exotic comfort food can be!
