Bananas Foster has been one of my favorite desserts since I was a kid. I love the contrast of the warm caramelized bananas and the cold ice cream. This is a very simple version of this classic dessert recipe. Your guests will be impressed with the beautiful presentation and great taste, and they will never know it only took a few minutes to prepare!
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
¼ teaspoon ground allspice
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ cup Brown Sugar
1 tablespoon banana liqueur
2 under ripe bananas, sliced in half lengthwise
¼ cup cup dark rum
Melt butter in a skillet over low heat. Add brown sugar, allspice and nutmeg and stir until sugar dissolves. Add banana liqueur and bring it to a simmer. Add bananas and cook for about 1 minute on each side. While cooking, spoon sauce over bananas. Remove the bananas and set on a plate.
Bring sauce to a simmer and carefully add the rum. The sauce may flame on its own, or you can carefully light the sauce. Continue to cook until the flame dies out, about 1-2 minutes. Sauce should be a syrupy consistency when done. In a serving dish, scoop vanilla ice cream and top with bananas. Spoon sauce over dish. You can garnish with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, toasted coconut or anything else your heart desires.
