Biker's Sloppy Joes

Submitted by:

Description

One of my family's dinner staples, the sloppy joe, is easy to make and tasty enough that even your kids will love them! These have a little spice to them, so you may want to omit the hot stuff if your mouth can't handle it. Serve these up with some tater tots, and some beans, and you have a simple meal that is done in minutes!

add to shopping list Ingredients

1 lb. ground beef
1 dried Ancho chile pepper
2 dried cayenne peppers
1/2 cup boiling water, cooled down a bit
2 T. butter
1 med. red onion, chopped
2 plum tomatoes, diced
2 cloves garlic, chopped
4-5 Kaiser Rolls

Preparation

Tear seeds and stem out of peppers and tear into small pieces. Crush cayenne peppers too, then add to the water to re-hydrate. In skillet add butter, onion and tomatoes. Blend peppers in food processor. cook ground beef and then mix all together.....wow these are hot!

This was always one of my favorite dishes growing up. I like to add some barbecue sauce as well to give it a little more kick.

They look yummy and I too liked them when the school cafeteria served them. I do not use peppers so I am wondering how to get much the same kick but without the heat. Any suggestions?
