Cdin's Hippocrates Soup

Submitted by:

Description

A delicious and extremely HEALTHY soup originally created by Hippocrates and revised for today. This is my favorite soup of all time because it's such a miracle of health as used by Dr. Max Gerson in the Early 40s. He is one of my heroes.

Preparation

Add all chopped vegetables to Stainless Steel or Glass Pot. Cover with water just to top vegetables. Bring to boil, then immediately turn down to very slow simmer. Cook for 5 hours at very low heat until all vegetables are completely tender.

You can puree through a fine sieve or serve as is.

Options: You can garnish with fresh basil threads, or our fortified Soy Sauce (delicious!). For kids, you can stir in a pat of organic sweet butter or a teaspoon of organic peanut or olive oil.

Serve with warm bread, butter and a fresh tossed salad.

This delicious soup seems to have curative powers - but we make no such claims here. We can only share with you that this soup has done amazing things for friends and family. Please let me know what you think of the soup!

This soup's first origins were evidently from Hippocrates, the great Greek Physician. It was popularized by the renowned Max Gerson. We happen to think this soup is absolutely delicious and have adapted it to our modern palates.

You can serve without herbs or seasonings for the most simple of fare, as Hippocrates might have served it.

We have tried to keep close to the original recipe so that maximum benefits are derived.

This should provide 8 servings.

Please note, this is not the original Gerson Hippocrates Diet as recommended for cancer. The original recipe included only the following:

Potatoes
Leeks
Onions
Celery Root
Parsley Root (If available)
Tomatoes

Simmered at very low heat for 5 hours, then mashed thoroughly in a food mill until creamy smooth.

No salt, seasonings, herbs, spices.

For those who may be interested, I have written more comprehensive information on this soup and Dr. Gerson's diet here: cdin.us/blogsites/gerson-diet-hippocrates-soup-romaine-smoosh/

Hello - I'm wondering if I can revise this recipe if it's accepted - I see that I made an error!

Thank you!

Love the name of this soup, although it appears so rich it looks a little like you could eat it with a fork. Nice colors.

Hi Theresa,

Actually, the picture is during cooking and everything hasn't boiled down to puree consistency.

But the picture could be a vegetable stew rather than soup. : )

For "invalids," as Hippocrates would say, the pureeing was a vital step.

For the healthy, a stew form might be just as interesting.

Thanks for your comment!

Sorry Friends - the prep time is a little longer than 10 minutes. That's a bit of a goof that I'm not sure how to fix. A more realistic time frame is 20 minutes.

I read about Dr. Gerson and his therapy. I watched some documentary on netflix about the therapy, he's daughter was in this documentary. It inspired me to buy a juicer and start juicing. Now I have to try their soup.

Thanks for posting this! I have Charlotte Gerson's book The Gerson Therapy and just thought I'd add she doesn't allow any spices NO SALT especially for those who are trying to heal from degenerative diseases. ;-) You can add some raw garlic and that's it. She says to cook it for 2 hours,also..

@ktr2567 Hi! You are absolutely right. This recipe is DEFINITELY not the completely original recipe for Hippocrates Soup as recommended for the cancer diet. I should have made that more clear in the recipe. : ) Instead, I merely stated that this recipe was adapted from the original. The original recipe from Dr. Max Gerson actually includes just the following:

potatoes
leeks
tomatoes
celery root
onions

No spices, seasonings, salt, pepper,

This recipe above was adapted for this website and the palate of today. The original recipe is extremely bland and processed in a food mill for easier assimilation. Most people on a regular diet might not find it very tasty.

Because the soup is so healthy, adding a little salt and pepper helps the "medicinal soup" go down. : )

Today's tastes don't do well without salt, although I would love to recommend that no salt or pepper be added.

I would love to update this recipe, but not sure how to change it on this website.

: )
