Who can resist an order of hot Buffalo Wings and cold Beer on a Friday night?

Our favorite pub was offering a variety of wings they called Honey Hot and after some experimenting I adapted these wings to the grill.

Now I make my own and, in my humble opinion, they're even better than restaurant made!

My so-called secret ingredient in both the marinade and basting sauce is Franks Red Hot sauce, the absolute best wing sauce I've ever used.

2 lbs chicken wings (drummettes and wingettes separated)
For the marinade:
3 TBL lemon juice
3 TBL Franks Red Hot Sauce
1 TBL garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
For the basting sauce:
1/2 cup liquid honey
3 TBL Franks Red Hot sauce
1 TBL Worchestershire sauce


1. Mix the marinade ingredients in a glass jar or bowl.

Put the chicken wings in a resealable plastic bag and pour in the marinade.

Squish the bag around to completely cover the wings.

Refrigerate at least 4 hours but overnight is best for maximum flavor.

2. Set up the grill for direct cooking and preheat to 400F - 450F.

Place the wings on the grill and close the lid.

Check on the wings every couple of minutes and flip them and move them around the grill to make sure they cook evenly and don't burn. Some wings cook quicker than others.

3. As they begin to brown up, and about 5 minutes before you take them off the grill, begin basting the wings with the basting sauce.

Baste both sides well, keep flipping them and moving them and basting them so they get covered well and get nice and sticky.

When they're cooked remove them from the grill and serve immediately.
