Homemade Barbecue Sauce

Submitted by:

Description

Barbecue sauce is a must have when you live in Texas because many holidays are spent outside grilling with family and friends. What better to top those lovely burgers or chicken breasts than tangy barbecue sauce? Of course you can use a jarred version if you want to, but homemade barbecue sauce is where it is at! This recipe that my Great Aunt makes is out of this world. It is super simple to make and tastes great! Try it for your next barbecue, and your family and friends will beg for the recipe!

2 quarts ketchup
½ cup liquid smoke
½ teaspoon dry mustard
1 cup hot water
1 cup cider vinegar
2 cups brown sugar

In a large pot, add all the ingredients and mix well. Simmer on medium/low heat for about 20 minutes to blend the flavors. Allow to cool. Now you can baste your meats or just store it in an airtight container for later use.
