These sinfully delicious peanut butter and chocolate dessert bars are out of this world. As a "sweet" fanatic married to a "salty" fanatic, it's always a struggle coming up with desserts that can be shared and devoured with equal gusto. These bars are the solution.
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup Sugar
5 Tbsp cocoa
1 egg, beaten
1 1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup pecans, finely chopped
1/4 cup hazelnuts, finely chopped
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly.
2/3 cup powdered sugar
1 cup smooth, natural peanut butter (no salt added)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
5oz Semi Sweet Choclate chips (or other fine chocolate)
Pink Himalayan salt
1 Tbsp butter
1. In double boiler (or a bowl resting over a pot of lightly simmering water), melt the butter, sugar and cocoa.
2. While still over water, add egg and beat to combine (will thicken quite a bit here). Remove from heat and add graham cracker crumbs and nuts.
3. Press into an 8 x 8 cake pan. Set aside.
4. Add peanut butter and butter together in small bowl.
5. Mix in sugar, salt and vanilla to form a thick paste.
6. Dump onto base layer and smooth over, patting down to make a flat, even layer.
7. In double boiler (or microwave), melt butter and chocolate chips together. Stir until completely dissolved and smooth.
8. Pour over peanut butter layer and spread out evenly.
9. Cool in fridge for about 5 minutes (should still be slightly soft on top but not warm).
10. Sprinkle, lightly, with Himalayan salt. Return to fridge (or freezer, if you’re in a hurry like I was), and let cool completely to become hard.
11. Cut into small squares and don’t say I didn’t warn you….these things are addictive.
I have to agree, these do look 'sinfully delicious'. Just need to figure out where i can get some Pink Himalayan salt.
These look so much like Nanaimo bars - and the recipe is similar. Hard to believe that anything could be richer than Nanaimos, but I think this one may be! I'll have to make them.
Nanaimo bars have a custard layer in the middle. They might be along the same family (like a chocolate cake is related to a mocha cake), but I'll tell you right now, they are nothing alike.
Yes, I know about the custard all too well! They are a staple at my house as my grandmother was from Canada. I think the peanut butter here looks like it replaces what would be custard in Nanaimos rather well.
Two of my favorite things in the world - chocolate and peanut butter! Any hints as to where pink Himalayan salt might be found, though? I've never heard of that, but sounds wonderfully exotic. :)
These sound decadently delicious...finger food for a Friday night movie with your favorite squeeze :)
As a chocolate and peanut butter addict, these sound outrageous. I have a similar recipe without the hazelnuts and graham cracker crumbs. I'm sure they are delicious. Will be making them soon.
Am I missing something here? I see 1/2 cup of butter to mix with base ingredients, another 1/2 cup (melted) I assume to mix with the peanut butter, where's the butter to melt with the chocolate chips?
can you use something beside pink salt? I found it fro $19.00 for 5 lbs all the way up to $44 for 5 lbs
Of course you can use other salt. You could try flaked salt, such as fleur de sel, or gray sea salt. If you can't find any or would rather not buy it, just use regular sea salt, but be sparing with it. If you REALLY don't want to do that, then go ahead and use regular salt, but don't use very much.
These look absolutely delicious - my husband has a savoury tooth and I have a sweet tooth - so as you say, think that these could be the perfect combination ;)
