This is my mom's sauce that she used to make for the pasta.
3-28 oz cans 28 oz cans tomato puree
6 tbsps Sugar
6 large fresh basil leaves
1 medium onion sliced or chopped
1 tsp dry oregano
3 tbsps vegetable oil or olive oil
3-3/4 cans water (save one of the cans and fill it about 3/4 of the way with water)
In a big pot heat up oil, once oil is heated add onions,saute till onion is translucent but don't burnPour tomato puree,use one of the tomato puree and fill it 3/4 of the way with water and add to the sauce 3 times (3- 3/4 cans of water) stir all together.if you like thicker sauce use a 1/2 can of water.Let sauce cook in medium heat for 10 minutes or so then add the sugar and basil and oregano stir and simmer on low to medium heat for another 30 to 40 minutes stirring occasionally....
