Salad of Lost Jewels with Sweet Chili Dressing

Salad of Lost Jewels with Sweet Chili Dressing

This is a very simple recipe that I put together for a light lunch. It's fast and easy -- all you need to do is just takes whatever veggies what you have in your fridge or pantry and whip up some dressing. Putting together this salad probably took no more than 10 minutes. The dressing is slightly sweet, balanced out with a splash of fish sauce and lemon juice. Quite refreshing and has a slight hint of Thai flavour. I highly recommend adding in cilantro; it really greatly boosts the flavour! I absolutely LOVE this recipe. Apart from being extremely easy to make it is delicious. To those that eat squid, the taste is very similar, so... come on.. dare a little will you? Again a good place to find baby octopus is at local Asian Markets.

Nutella Stuffed French Toast

Nutella Stuffed French Toast

My boyfriend is a huge fan of french toast. As early on as our first conversations he’s been talking about french toast constantly. I hadn’t made french toast in such a long time so I had to re-learn the art of french toast just for him. I encountered too many recipes that were too eggy, others made the toast too soggy while others didn’t have enough flavour. After many trials and many people in the dorms coming up to me asking me what I was making that smelled so delicious, I finally came up with a recipe I could live with. Recently I adapted it to include Nutella stuffed inbetween. It's still a fairly simple process. French Toast can be very finicky sometimes. It takes some practice to find a recipe that works for you. If anything, use this as a guideline for your own version =)

Caesar Salad

Caesar Salad

I love to order Caesar salad when I go out to dinner, but I never was able to duplicate that wonderful taste at home. Bottled Caesar dressings never seemed to satisfy, and boxed croûtons never had the same flavor or crunch. Finally, one day I came across this recipe in my Mother's recipe box. It is simple enough that anyone can make it, but tastes just as good as the ones you get at an Italian restaurant. Serve it as a starter, a side dish, or even top it with some grilled chicken or shrimp and serve as a meal. I think Caesar Cardini, himself (inventor of Caesar salad...not Julius Caesar, as some people like to think) would approve!

A great dish for potluck dinners. One of the terrific aspects to this dish is you can change it to suit your preferences. To make it more of an entree mix in meats of your choice. Add vegetables such as broccoli and onions to give it more texture.

Lemon Curd is a paste which resembles a hot marmalade. It can be made into a mousse by folding it into freshly whipped cream. It is used in tarts and tartletts and may be eaten alone. It is also used on top of shortbread cookies dough before baking.

I love this recipe because it can be served in so many different ways. Keep it in its original form, and serve it over some leafy greens with a lemon vinaigrette. Add some Italian herbs and serve it over pasta with marinara sauce, or Alfredo sauce. There are so many ways you can play with it. No matter what you do, your stomach will be satisfied!

If you love thick potato chowder that is chock full of corn and ham, then this is the recipe for you. Perfect for a cold winter’s day, all you need to make this meal complete is some fresh, hot rolls and perhaps a fruit salad. When you can make something this delicious so quickly, you will never have to worry about what to serve for supper on a blustery evening again.

This is the best chocolate cake I've ever had; moist, flavorful and frugal! It's also vegan and costs less than $3 including the icing! We make this often here and the kids adore it.

These sinfully delicious peanut butter and chocolate dessert bars are out of this world. As a "sweet" fanatic married to a "salty" fanatic, it's always a struggle coming up with desserts that can be shared and devoured with equal gusto. These bars are the solution.

My mother made this often when I was growing up and it was a staple in my house when my children were young. With just 3 ingredients, it's easy to see why this super-simple recipe would be popular with busy moms! I like to serve this with garlic toast and a side salad. It's also delicious served over rice.

Great Grandma, Lucille, used to make these Asian inspired chicken wings. Most of my family cannot handle very spicy food, so these wings were a great alternative to the hot variety. Serve these at a Sunday football party and I guarantee that no one will be complaining about the lack of heat. The flavor makes up for it!

I don't know what they put in Chinese take out that makes it taste so good, but rarely am I able to replicate the flavors in my own kitchen. This fried rice comes pretty close. You can easily substitute with whatever meat and vegetables you have on hand, or leave out the meat for a vegetarian version.
