Dad's Bruschetta
This is my Dad's recipe for bruschetta bread, which is a classic recipe that you'll love for appetizers, a snack or for sharing at a party. The key is in the type of tomato and bread that you use for this -- you'll be pleased with the results!
Green Bean Casserole with Onion Straws
This is a delicious green bean casserole that goes great with just about anything. I'd recommend it for a side dish during a turkey dinner, but it could go well with any type of roasted meat dish. Feel free to experiment with the ingredients!
Apple & Cinnamon Stuffed Pork Tenderloin
Here is an excellent fall dish that takes advantage of a seasonal fruit, apples, with a great pairing in pork tenderloin. This dish is great for the barbecue, but you could also oven roast it if you choose.
Halftime Chili Con Carne
Halftime of the Super Bowl is one of my favorite times of the year -- not because of the musical entertainment, but for the food! This halftime chili con carne is a staple at all of our Super Bowl parties and will be a sure hit if you decide to make this up for the big game! This chili is also a great leftover dish that you can enjoy for the entire week. I use Molson Canadian for the beer in this dish, but any good lager beer will do. We have also made this chili with Sleeman's Original Draft, which turned out quite well. The beer does add quite a bit of flavour to this chili.
Buttery BBQ Corn on the Cob
The nicest thing about this recipe is that you'll never need to apply butter (or margarine) to your corn on the cob again! The corn comes right from the grill with full butter flavour and more. Given the fact that the corn is never boiled, the full flavour is kept in during the cooking process on the grill. You will never boil corn again -- I promise!
Tater Tots Casserole with Cheddar Cheese
This is a fun dish that is easy to assemble and makes for a hearty meal for a family. It is a very interesting way of serving tater tots (or fried potato rounds), which everyone loves. Feel free to remove the cheese from this dish -- it works with or without it. Enjoy!
Christmas Eggnog
Here is an easy recipe for a classic Christmas eggnog (or Christmas egg nog, however you decide to spell it!) that you and your guests will love over the holidays. Skip buying the cheap eggnog you can get at the grocery store -- you'll be able to tell your guests you made this from scratch and the quality will be tenfold better. You can add rum to this drink or leave it out if you wish.
Grilled Jerk Chicken
If you've been to Jamaica (and if you haven't, you should go!) you're likely familiar with this classic dish that you'll crave as much as we do. This is an easy recipe for grilled jerk chicken that you'll want to make over and over again. Enjoy, mon!
Christmas Shortbread Cookies
This is my recipe for the absolute best shortbread cookies you'll ever taste. We have been enjoying these in our family on Christmas since I can remember, so the recipe has seen quite a few taste tests over the years! Serve these for your Christmas party and you'll have a lot of happy guests -- enjoy!
Swiss & Mushroom Burgers
We decided to make these delicious swiss & mushroom burgers tonight and they were a hit. It is January in Canada and not the best time to be barbecuing, but grilling these was definitely the way to go. Hope you enjoy these as much as we did! We used crimini mushrooms rather than regular white button mushrooms as they have a bit of a richer mushroom flavour and seem to keep their texture a bit more when sautéed.
Garlic Butter Shrimp
Here is a super, super simple dish that is really tasty and versatile enough to be paired with almost anything -- rice, pasta, salad... you name it. In the photo attached I have some various greens plated with the shrimp.
Buffalo Chicken Pizza
Buffalo chicken pizza is a spicy food lovers spin on good old pizza pie. This is a fantastic dish to serve at events like the SuperBowl and you'll likely find that most of your friends have never tried it, so you'll get extra points for originality. This pizza rocks - you'll definitely want to try this dish! You can adjust the ingredients to suit your individual taste. For instance, you might want to use a bit more buffalo wing sauce than I have listed depending on your ability to handle the heat. If you wish, you may even want to amp up the spice by adding your amount own hot sauce to the sauce base. I used Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Wing Sauce for my dish - you can use this or any other wing sauce you prefer. Frank's is my favorite but it does have a distinct taste that some people do not enjoy.
Spicy Garlic Shrimp Stir-Fry
Here is a real tasty stir-fry that takes ten minutes to prepare, ten minutes to make and will definitely be one you'll make again. Shrimp is fantastic in this dish and is a great way to swap another protein in if you are sick of chicken, beef and pork. We use a garlic chili sauce by Huy Fong Foods, Inc. in this dish to create the heat that makes this dish so great.
