Caprese Salad in a Glass
Caprese Salad is a traditional salad, usually served on it is own or as a side dish but this time I have used it in small quantities as an appetizer, to be held in your hand and to be eaten with a little spoon.
Puff Pastry Waffles Filled with Fruit Jam
Warm pastry, with warm fruit jam and some icing powder on top is just divine. It melts in your mouth. After trying this, I have to admit that puff pastry baked in a waffle iron is so much more tasty than baked in the oven. It is less dry and you can control better the cooking time.
Chicken Stir Fry
A stir fry is an excellent way to eat lots of crunchy vegetables with plenty of vitamins retaining their original texture and flavour.
Fried Rice
In just no time you can turn plain white rice into something so delicious, with just a few simple ingredients, offering a different texture and a nice blend of the different flavours, soaked up by the rice, while frying. This dish can easily prepared in advance and reheated in the microwave or oven.
Homemade Olive Tapenade
Are you an olive fan like me? I could eat olives with almost anything. Olive tapenades, a chunky spread of olives, are very popular here in the South of France.
Beef Ravioli with a Spicy Butter Sauce
Fresh ravioli with just some butter and herbs is all you need and less than 15 minutes is all it takes before sitting down at the table infront of a simple, tasty dish.
Puff Pastry: Little Pear Bites
I love warm puff pastry combined with some fruit. It doesn't request a lot of ingredients and its ready before you know it. The taste of soft, warm fruit with the buttery pastry, just melts away in your mouth.
Decorative Chocolate Hearts
St Valentine is almost there. I was thinking of just making some decorative chocolate hearts. Even by making the simplest cake or serving ice cream as dessert, it could be decorated with these little hearts.
French Toast
'Breakfast or dessert?' have used white toast bread but you could use any sliced bread of course. Simple, quick, topped off with a nice jam or just some plain brown sugar and a bit of fresh fruit, served with a hot, steaming cup of coffee, the newspaper and some light jazz music in the background. A great start of the weekend with a nice treat in front of you!
Red Bell Pepper Pie
Is there anything more easy than this warm appetizer? This little red pepper pie is lovely in small parts as appetizer but here in France it is more often served for lunch with a fresh, green salad on the side. A great balance between something buttery (with a certain amount of calories) and some fresh greens with just a dash of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Feels like spring is in the air!
Zucchini Salad with Blue Cheese
A salad which doesn't only bring some fresh colours to your plate but also a great, crunchy taste. A combination of raw vegetables with warm toasted pine nuts and the strong flavour of blue cheese.
Sour Cherry Clafoutis All Year Round
I have tried a clafoutis that you can make all year round namely with pitted sour cherries out of a jar. And for sure, it was a great success! Those cherries have been stored in a sugary juice and will give an extra kick to this dessert.
Ham and herb cheese appetizer
When preparing appetizers it is always good to keep in mind what kind of main course you will be preparing. You do not want to serve appetizers which spoil the appetite, that is why I often opt for cucumber, salad or endive leaves instead of toasts to serve my appetizer on. At the end of the day, it's all about the toppings. In this case I have used a simple combination of sliced ham, with a subtle, more neutral taste, combined with some strong flavoured herb cheese on top. A nice refreshing appetizer, lovely with a glass of wine!
